The department of eye, ENT, and head and neck surgery aspires to play a leading and positive role in the medical education and research as well as heal services with regard to these specialties.

The Department of Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery

In 1416H, the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences was established at Umm Al-Qura University. The Medicine and Surgery Program started with only two departments, which were the Department of Medical Sciences that included all the specialties of the pre-clinical phase, and the Department of Community Medicine and Pilgrims Health Care that included all the clinical specialties.

In 1434H, a department was established for the Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery from the Department of Surgery.

The Department of Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery teaches the fifth-year students of the Medicine and Surgery Program the following curricula:

Fifth Year:

• The Department’s Mission:

- Seeking the achievement of the objectives of the university and the College of Medicine and developing the Medicine and Surgery Program.

- Teaching the students what is related to the Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery theoretically and practically in  hospitals and labs.

- Conducting the academic researches that are related to the Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery.

• - Practicing the medical profession in hospitals and medical facilities to serve the patients.
• - Giving technical advices in the fields of the Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery.
• - Training graduate doctors and supervising intern doctors.
• - Serving the society through various medical awareness activities.
• - Representing the college in the different specialized medical entities.
• - Representing the college in the scientific meetings, seminars and conferences, inside and outside the Kingdom, and organizing such events in the university.
• - Establishing the related societies to the Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery, under the umberlla of Umm Al-Qura University.

The Department of Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery consists of different specialties, as follows:

1. Nasal and Sinus Diseases and Surgery. 
2. Ear and Neuro-otological Diseases and Surgery.
3. Head and Neck Diseases and Surgery:

5.  Pediatric ENT Diseases and Surgery.
6. Face Cosmetic Diseases and Surgery.
7. Hypoacusis Diseases and Aural Rehabilitation.
8. Dactylology; Correction and Treatment of Speech Disorders and Dactylology.
9. Cornea, External Eye Diseases and Refractive Eye Surgeries. 
10. Retina and Outer Layer.
11. Eye Pressure.
12. Strabismus in Children.
13. Optic Nerves.
14. Science of Eye Diseases.
15. Ophthalmitis.
16. Eye Cosmetology and Restoration.

• The Educational Path:

Of course, the educational giving for the sensitive specialties in the department will not reduce from its current level. We aspire to increase and grow in every specialty separately, especially with the application of the new system on the curricula that are included in the awaited schedule. This will connect the Department of Ophthalmology, ENT, and Head and Neck Surgery to the fifth-year students and teaching assistants.

Objectives

The eye, ENT, and head and neck surgeries department aims at:

• Supporting the health services and medical education in its various fields through contributing to graduating highly qualified doctors that can practice their medical profession after graduation, as well as preparing them to do higher medical studies in those specialties inside the Kingdom or abroad.  
• Academically focusing on the ENT, head and neck, and ocular surgeries along with all their branches, in parallel to giving the attention to the same departments in the clinical field.
• Preparing the university hospital project in the future so as to integrate between the academic and clinical departments, and to give them sufficient attention to reach the desired future vision.  
• Mutual cooperation between the ENT, head and neck, ocular surgeries department and the general surgery department regarding the examinations and educational process.
• Integrating with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and the ENT, head and neck, and ocular surgeries concerning the training field. 
• Integrating with local, regional and international bodies in the field of ENT, head and neck, and ocular surgeries.
• Developing curricula, educational methods, and examinations.
• Participating in specialized medical activities in hospitals to raise the health level in Mecca through the provision of health care for ENT, head and neck, and ocular surgeries patients.

Mission

The optimum education and training for the male and female students of Medicine College with regard ENT surgery; head and neck surgery; and ocular surgery, according to the best modern teaching methods, in addition to conducting medical research that serves the society under the umbrella of the college and university; adhering to the international quality standards.
